Introduction
In these online pages I present an introduction
to playing the Lisbon Style of the Portuguese Guitar. I
present basic playing techniques. I give musical examples
in standard notation and tablature. There are transcriptions of
solo pieces with Spanish guitar accompaniment. There is
information about accompanying the Portuguese Guitar with the
Spanish Guitar. There are transcriptions of 19th century pieces.
There are transposed versions from early 20th century method
books. There are videos of unique performers. There is an
annotated bibliography. My personal odyssey
discovering this instrument began over 50 years in Montreal and
took me to Lisboa, Coimbra, Porto, Braga, Vancouver and
California--some of that long story is related here.
